Finals Weekend.  What a fantastic couple of days!
Saturday brought some rain but despite this we saw some really good bowling. Thanks to everyone who brought food for lunch which was greatly appreciated, to the bar staff who kept us all lubricated, to the helpers in the kitchen for clearing up.
Sunday.  What a change in the weather.  The sun was out and there was a good crowd watching some exciting bowling.  Afterwards we had the prize giving which was very well attended and thanks to our President, Jack, for giving out the prizes. The bar staff excelled themselves by firstly raffling off unwanted bar stock and then by producing a first rate Pimms.  After all this, Trevor and Jeremy, assisted by Peter and Nor and probably others, produced a fantastic BBQ. Roo also provided some of his famous Bombay Potatoes. Thanks also to Ann, Don,Tim and Judy for clearing up afterwards. The party carried on, Nigel provided music, there was dancing and drinking on the terraces.
The whole weekend would not have been such a success without a lot of people putting in a lot of work. Thanks to Margaret for producing the order of play, to Len for getting the trophies, to Jack for being the Umpire, to Ann, Stan, Brian, Len and John for Marking, to France for the photographs and most important of all, to all of you who entered the competitions in the first place.  Apologies to anyone who I have left out.
Photos will be on the website in a couple of days.
The AGM is on Thursday 24 November at 7pm.  Please put this date in your diary.
Short Mat Bowling Just a reminder that the season starts on 27 September.  Click here for details.
Clubmark.  The club has been awarded Clubmark status and I understand that we are the first bowls club in Kent to achieve this accreditation.  Congratulations to Jeremy for all the hard work and time he has put in to achieve this and to Nicola from Kent Sport who has been a regular visitor to the club.  In essence, the award of Clubmark means that the club has been inspected and has been shown to have high standards of equity, coaching, welfare and management and provides a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place to enjoy sport.
Nominations for Officers of the Club for next year. The sheets are displayed on the General noticeboard.  If you wish to serve your club in an official capacity then put your name down and get a couple of sponsors.
Winter Social Programme.  It is important to keep the troops entertained in the cold winter months.  We already host the Hythe Short Mat Bowling Club and have regular Coffee Mornings, but the Management Committee would like to see more use being made of the clubhouse and bar.  To this end, it is proposed that we have events programmed every Friday night throughout the off season.  Examples are: Crib Night, Bingo, Pub Games, Horse Racing, Quiz and Darts.  We would welcome your ideas and also whether you would support the events.  The idea is mainly to get club members together during the Winter.
Christmas and New Year.  I know its the middle of Summer but please put these dates in your diary.  The Christmas Dinner is on Saturday 10 December and we will be having a New Years Eve party with entertainment and everyone bringing a "sharing platter".
